Kombai are very alert, even boisterous, dogs and are described as having a high degree of intelligence. They are fast and agile hunters, and can be trusted to guard property from intruders. Kombai do not like to be left alone
for long periods when off their own terms. They will take care of the owner's home while they're away and will bark at any intruder that comes near their house.
They have a reputation for being difficult to train. When trained badly, there are stories of dogs biting babies wrapped in bedding or people entering the house that have not been fed or had water set near them as they would normally do to let them know they're there. They will then attack.
Kombai are generally good with children, although it is always recommended that children learn to respect and obey the dog. They are also extremely good watchdogs and can alarm the owner of any approaching danger or visitor.
Kombai dogs are intelligent dogs. They were used as hunting dogs in Tamil Nadu region of India and were guarding houses in Sri Lanka and south India. The Kombai is an ancient breed, believed to have existed even before the time of Christ, it is said that they have been used by cavemen as protection from tigers.
