Chaurichaura is a town near Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh where Indians set a police station on fire on 4 February 1922 in retaliation for the British government's violent action. Due to this, 22 police personnel hiding in it were burnt alive. This incident is known in the pages of history as Chauri Chaura Kand Se. This incident had a big impact on the Indian independence movement. Mahatma Gandhi became very upset after this incident. After this violent incident, he even withdrew his non-cooperation movement. 


The president of Gandhi Peace Foundation, Kumar Prashant, says that the non-cooperation movement was on the verge of victory at that time, but after the Chauri Chaura incident, Gandhiji took it back because he felt that it was going astray. Many people also say that in the year 1922, this movement was so fast that there would have been pressure on the British and only then we would have got freedom.
