New universities to be opened in Kanpur, Ghaziabad and Fatehpur, Yogi cabinet's big decision

The scope of higher education in the state is set to expand further. At Monday's cabinet meeting, approval was given for the establishment of three new private universities in Kanpur, Ghaziabad, and Fatehpur.

With this, the number of private universities in the state will increase to 56. This will provide more opportunities to the youth for quality higher education, research and employment oriented courses within the state itself.

The Cabinet has approved the proposal to issue Letter of Permission (LOP) and grant operating authority to three institutions after evaluation as per the standards prescribed under the Uttar Pradesh Private University Act, 2019.

In this, Swami Brahmanand Saraswati Charitable Trust, Delhi will establish an agriculture based private university on 51.739 acres of land in Kanpur Nagar.

Its objective is to promote agricultural education, research, and modern technology. Similarly, the Indian Institute of Management and Engineering Society, Ghaziabad, has been granted permission to establish a private university on 26.2656 acres of land.

This university will offer various professional and employment-oriented courses along with higher education. Meanwhile, Anglo Sanskrit College, Fatehpur, has received approval to establish a private university on 20.45 acres of land. This will eliminate the need for students from Fatehpur and surrounding districts to rely on other cities for higher education.

Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyaya stated that eight new government universities have been established in the state since 2017. With the approval of three new private universities, the number of private universities in the state will increase to 56.
